EMERGENCY SERVICES HAVE responded to an explosion outside a post office in Rome, local media report.
The explosion occurred on the Via Marmorata near the centre of the city at about 9am local time (8am Irish time).
Il Giornale reports that a bomb went off between two cars. The cars were damaged but no injuries were reported.
The post office was open at the time and staff and customers were frightened when they heard the blast.
Emergency services responded to the scene of the explosion. It’s reported that police discovered two unexploded devices in the car park while conducting a search.
La Republica reports that the city’s prosecutor will open an investigation into the explosion.
It’s reported that the bombs may be linked to anarchist groups and were an “act of protest”.
